Would the people around you say you were perfect?
Unless you just got done with the greatest first date ever, the people around you will say that you are not perfect. You have flaws. Your friends have flaws. If you are married, you married someone who is not perfect.
We have excepted that things are flawed. In a weird way, flaws make things more valuable. One of the most expensive stamps ever sold is the 1918 Curtiss JN-4. In October 2014 a block of 4 stamps sold at nearly 3 million dollars. What makes a 24 cent stamp sell for that kind of price? The flaw. The plane printed on the stamp is inverted. You can see it in the picture above.
We accept that people and things are flawed and are okay with that, but why are people upset when they find out that the church isn't perfect?
I have friends that have stopped going to church because of the flaws that the church has. I hear things like 'people are judgmental', 'it's not my style', and others.
Why are people so afraid of the church having flaws? The church is made up of flawed people, so why would we expect a church to be perfect?
I think the reason that people focus on the flaws of the church is so they don't have to focus on the perfectness of Jesus.
Jesus lived a flawless life. He was perfect in every way. Jesus made statements that people don't like. Jesus called people out on their sins. The flaws that the churches have don't change who Jesus is.
If you are caught up on the flaws that a church has you are focused on the wrong thing. Focus on Jesus. He is the only perfect one.
